24 ELIZABETH ST´Â ÀÛ°¡ ½º½º·Î°¡ º»ÀÎ ¸ð½ÀÀ» ÃÔ¿µÇÑ ÀÚ±â ÃÊ»ó »çÁø SELF-PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY ½Ã¸®ÁîÀÌ´Ù. ½Ã¸®ÁîÀÇ Á¦¸ñÀÎ ’24 ELIZABETH ST’´Â ½ºÄÚƲ·£µå¿¡ ½ÇÁ¸ÇÏ´Â ÁÖ¼ÒÀÌ¸ç »çÁøµéÀÇ ¹è°æÀÌ µÇ´Â Àå¼ÒÀÌ´Ù. ÀÌ·¯ÇÑ ÀÛ¾÷ÀÇ ¸ñÀûÀº »ó»ó ¼ÓÀÇ ±ØÀåÀ» ¸¸µé°í ±×°÷¿¡¼­ ¹è¿ì°¡ µÇ¾î ¿¬±âÇÏ´Â ¿¹¼ú°¡Àû ¿å¸ÁÀÇ ½ÇÇö¸¸ÀÌ ¾Æ´Ï¶ó ³» µÎ ´«¿¡ ºñÄ£ ÀÌ ÀÛÀº ¼¼°è¸¦ À籸¼ºÇÏ´Â °ÍÀÌ´Ù. ‘24 ELIZABETH ST’¿¡ °ÅÁÖÇÏ´Â ´Ù¾çÇÑ °³¼ºÀ» °¡Áø ÁֹεéÀº ƯÁ¤ Àå¼Ò¸¦ ÇâÇÑ ÀÌÇØ¿Í ÇнÀÀ» ¹Ý¿µÇÑ´Ù.

24 Elizabeth ST is a series of self-portrait photographs. The title is taken from a real address in Scotland and the stage of the series, an old, poor Scottish tenement in Ibrox, the district south of Clyde river, Glasgow. I lived in the tenement for more than 6 months, producing the project.

Although Ibrox is multi-cultural area where many people from different ethnic

backgrounds living, there were only a few tenants residing in the humble tenement. With the bizarre experience living in the empty building, I worked on making imaginary neighbors who were based on typical people in the area by using my own body. That is to say, all the characters in the series are fictional.

I impersonated some, disguising myself as them through masks and digital techniques. To impersonate others, I studied numerous people who did not appear very special but common and stereotypical, like familiar neighbours, and tried to make myself like them. I also attempted to imitate the plain and realistic format of documentary portrait photography in order to disturb audiences and make them discern the reality and the unreality in the pictures.

The purposes of the project are not only to realise my artistic ambition to be an actor in a theatre in my head but also to recreated the small world where was presented to my sight through becoming others. All the figures of tenants reflect my understanding and learning about the specific site, objects, people in Elizabeth Street.

 

2. 'WEST LAKE DISTRICT’ ½Ã¸®Áî

³»°¡ ¸Ó¹°·¶´ø Ç×Àú¿ì½Ã ¼­È£±¸ à¤ûÉ区 (West Lake District) ¼­³²ÂÊ ¿Ü°¢ÀÇ Àü´ç°¡ 转ÓÒʶ (Zhuantang town) ÁÖº¯Àº ÀÌÁ¦ °³¹ßÀÌ º»°ÝÀûÀ¸·Î ½ÃÀÛµÈ Áö¿ªÀÌ´Ù. ÀÌ Áö¿ªÀº ÀÌ¹Ì Áö¾îÁø °Ç¹°º¸´Ù ¾ÕÀ¸·Î Áö¾îÁú °Ç¹°ÀÌ ÈξÀ ¸¹°í °ÅÁֹε麸´Ù °Ç¼³±Ù·ÎÀÚµéÀ» ã±â°¡ ´õ ½±´Ù.

°ø»çÀå ¿ÜºÎº®¸é¿¡´Â Áö±ÝÀº ¹Ï±â Èûµç È­·ÁÇÑ Á¶°¨µµ¿Í ±¤°íµé·Î ¾ÕÀ¸·Î ÀÌ Áö¿ªÀÌ ¾î¶»°Ô ¹Ù²î¾î °¥Áö »ó»óÇÏ°Ô ÇÑ´Ù. Áö±ÝÀº ¹úÆÇ¿¡¼­ °Ç¼³ÇöÀåÀÇ ±²À½¸¸ µé¸± »ÓÀÌÁö¸¸ ¾ó¸¶ Áö³ªÁö ¾Ê¾Æ ´Ù¸¥ °³¹ßÁö¿ªÃ³·³ »õ·Î¿î ºôµù°ú ¾ÆÆÄÆ®, ¼îÇθô µîÀ¸·Î °¡µæ Â÷°Ô µÉ °ÍÀÌ´Ù.

ÀÌ ÇÁ·ÎÁ§Æ®´Â »çÁø°¡°¡ ½º½º·Î¸¦ ÃÔ¿µÇÏ´Â ÀÚ±â ÃÊ»ó »çÁø ½Ã¸®Áî Series of Self portrait photography °¡ µÉ °ÍÀÌ¸ç ³ª´Â Áö Áö¿ªÀÇ ÁøÁ¤ÇÑ ÁÖ¹ÎÀ̶ó ÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖ´Â °Ç¼³ ±Ù·ÎÀÚµé·Î ºÐÇÒ °ÍÀÌ´Ù. ±â·Ï »çÁøÀ̸鼭 µ¿½Ã¿¡, ±× ÇöÀåÀ» ¹Ù¶óº¸´Â »çÁø°¡ÀÇ ½Ã¼±À» ¹Ý¿µÇÑ ¿¬Ãâ »çÁøÀÌ µÇµµ·Ï ÇÒ °ÍÀÌ´Ù.

Zhuantang town in the West Lake District, Hangzhou has recently been zoned a development area. In the area, builders and buildings under construction are easier to meet than residents and constructed buildings. Although only construction noise from open fields is heard for now, advertisements on walls on the construction sites are full of promotions for buildings, apartments and shopping centers in the near future. The selfportrait photography series 'West Lake District' is presently set in the town. For the photographic project, I aimed to appear as

characters of builders who are true residents in this area by dressing up as them. I sought to reflect my body on camera not as an onlooker, but as a part of the field. Thus, this staged photographic project depicting common people at specific sites

through the cameraman's own vision imitates a form of documentary photography capturing social aspects incontemporary China.
