Harmony of Scenery, Encountering with the Original Form of Emotions, and Lights

Original Form of Emotions and Scenery of the Nature

 

In everyday life, we look into the surrounding scenery daily. Commonly, scenery is considered limited to the scenery of the nature. In reality, the dictionary meaning of scenery is stated as the appearance of the nature and the region such as the mountains, fields, river, sea, etc. But what we are missing is that the meaning of scenery includes certain politics and economics and circumstances. Scenery is not simply what is seen through the eyes and it also includes the mind of the seer. Photos of an artist are all made up of sceneries. By looking into the sceneries they do not necessary show specific objects and circumstances but they trigger discrete emotions from the audience by connecting to their personal experiences. The moment an artist focuses on such emotion, an ordinary scenery is produced to be more live scene than its reality.

 

Among many subjects, an artist looks carefully only into the subjects he/she desires. Such visual characteristics similar to the acoustic characteristic which attempts to listen to what he/she desires to listen. If one sees only those he/she desires to see, from a different perspective, this means that depending on the person there are different visual perspectives. The images of sceneries shown in this exhibit are selected by the artist and reborn into the subjects arranged. The scenery seen by the artist is the captured moment that triggers mental communion or brought complicated thoughts without any reason. Such scene appears to be as starting an eccentric conversation and it causes strange feelings. It is difficult to explain and deliver to another person such state. Ki Hyun Kim did not stop at retaining in his heart and expressing in photos the moments of unforgettable and beautiful sceneries he saw while travelling in and out of Korea, but he says that he imaged people who are not presently there but with whom he wanted to be with. Such attitude is an attempt to share with another person the subject being seen and the emotions being felt, transcending time and space. In connection with such release of emotions, the artist retains the original form of emotions that no one can interfere with and at the same time, desires to share and commune with someone such emotions in their original form. By reading the definition of the photos of Ki Hyun Kim in the artist’s note, his mental world can be seen to a certain extent. “the excitement at leaving the photo, the overwhelming impression at facing the scenery and the remains at returning to the everyday live are the grateful gift that the photo work brings.” As he said, photo work plays a role that is beyond bringing magical impression and grateful gift.

 

When looking into the scenery photos of Ki Hyun Kim, sometimes the land seems to wriggle and to shout in silence. The artist listens carefully at the sound from the subject and watches for a long time unfamiliarly every time even though the object is a familiar one. Such attitude of the artist is looking at the subject creatively by cracking the stereotypes and rejecting customary views. The artist reproduces in reality as if it is originally the way it is by holding on to the scene. Therefore, the act of looking into the subject and taking a photo is an act of taking a photo in the way the artist desires see, in which case, the scene expressed in the photo does not exist anywhere anymore, but it is also the most truthful moment. The artist starts from ‘discovery’ a specific scenery, sometimes uses the method of skipping the surrounding in order to concentrate in the subject and sometimes sees quiet sceneries that are stopped as if they exist in different time from the current time.

 

As the scene is too ordinary, until it is reproduced, it is passed without getting any attention and as it is a scene that can be seen any time, in contrary, it is a scene that is never really looked into carefully. Provided that a scene includes both time and space, photos of Ki Hyun Kim are within the space of journey where the time flows like blank existing among special events.

 

When looking into our lives, they are mostly made up of times that flow without being acknowledged in ordinary spaces as such. As such, how shall we define such scenery? The artist shows images that, as sceneries that follow the original form of emotions, are in harmony with the light. Most photographers attempt to get attention of people by composing unique and original scenes, but Ki Hyun Kim stimulates the audience by showing very ordinary time and space where nothing happens and which make up most of our lives and uncovering lives without events.

Everyone probably keeps deep in the heart unforgettable and beautiful scenes or sceneries

When they look at scenes that move their hearts, they recall the person they want to be with.

Such beautiful and impressive sceneries have strength of warming and fulfilling our hearts and providing an emotional lead.

 

In this exhibition, I dramatically captured mysterious sceneries that are as beautiful as to touch your heart, momentary timings of the dark and colorful of the light and exquisite shadows, expressing them densely to the eyes.

 

Especially, the smooth and soft lines that can only be seen in the deserts

Impression and excitement at encountering with the wheat field in Palouse, Washington

The ever changing patterns that moves according to the lights over the endless and extensive earth and hills captures the mind of the photographer.

The permanent snow and glacier of the country of fire and ice, Iceland, the geyser that splashes its water column from the bottom of the earth to the sky and the giant waterfalls flowing from melted permanent snow and glacier guides us to the mysteries of the ancient times.

 

The tender green of Daedoon Mountain like a piece of oriental painting, glamorous scenery of Hambak Mountain

The rock and a pine tree where the beauty of empty space breaths and the down and sunrise are magnificent.

Incorporated into the fogs and water rising from the wetlands, the mysterious Decalcomanie with unusual ponds remain calmly in the memory.

The scent of pine in the pine tree forest in Imhanri, which is a habit of 300-hundred-year old pine trees interact with the walk way at the art gallery of the birth forest under the name of scenery in one space.

 

Excitement at departure and overwhelming impression facing the scenery

The long lasting remains when returned to the everyday live is a grateful gift that the photographic work brings.

 

Scenery captured by the camera but printed by the heart

That is the scenery and communication, “On flow with scenery,” that can be seen comfortably by anyone, as desired by the photographer

In order to do so, it is priority to look into and the love the subject to be captured.
