1 . I have noticed from seeing your posts on Instagram that you often wear Gucci. If they ask you to collaborate with them will you accept it?
인스타그램 포스트를 보니 구찌 브랜드를 좋아하는 것 같던데, 만약 구찌가 콜라보를 제안한다면 연락이 오면 같이 작업을 해볼 의향이 있는가?
Alessandro Michele is one of my all-time favorite artist. It would be a dream to work with him one day. This is one of my major goals I’d hope to accomplish. A great feat but nothing is impossible.
알레산드로 미켈레는 내가 가장 좋아하는 아티스트다. 언제가 그와 함께 일하는 것은 꿈있다. 이것이 내가 이루고 싶은 주요 목표들 중 하나이다. 위대한 업적이지만 불가능은 없다.
2. I have read from one of your interview that you are planning to launch your fashion label. How is that going so far? Also, if you launch your label do you have in mind to collaborate with fashion designers in other brands?
한 인터뷰에서 패션 브랜드 론칭을 기획 중이라 들었는데, 진행은 잘되고 있는가? 그리고 만약에 브랜드를 론칭 하면 다른 디자이너들과 같이 콜라보 해볼 생각은 없는가?
My brand Vali High is on hold for the time being as I’ve had 4 shows this year. I will be working on it over Christmas and new year period to relaunch for 2020. Expect big things! I currently do not have any collaborators in mind but I’m open for all possibilities!
내가 런칭하려는 브랜드 Vali High는 내가 올해 4개의 전시를 열었기 때문에 현재 보류 중이다. 2020년 재론칭을 위해 크리스마스와 새해 걸쳐 브랜드 일에 집중 할 것이다. 기대를 해도 좋들것 같다. 나는 현재 브랜드를 위해 어떤 협력자도 염두에 두고 있지 않지만 모든 가능성을 열어두고 있다.
3. You have a great sense of fashion, have you thought about filming fashion video?
패션 센스가 좋은데, 패션 비디오 촬영에 대해 생각해 본 적 있는가?
Thank you! I haven’t actually. But filming and playing/performing music is on the agenda for 2020 also.
생각해 본 적은 없지만, 2020년 계획에 영상 작업과 연주/공연이 적혀있다.
4. I have learned that you once pursued music and painting at the same time. Do you have in mind creating your own music that goes along with your artworks?
리서치를 통해서 음악과 페인팅을 동시에 추구했다는 것을 배웠다. 혹시 당신 작품과 어울릴만한 음악을 만드는 것을 생각해 본적 있는가?
From painting, I now have a new approach to song writing in that I explore chords and melodies like color and composition. I’m finding new ways of looking and observation all the time. Most of my titles for my paintings come from poems or lyrics I’ve written. It all flows together.
페인팅을 통해 나는 색과 구성과 같은 화음과 멜로디를 탐구하면서 새로운 작곡 접근법을 갖게 되었다. 나는 항상 새로운 시선과 관찰을 하는 방법을 찾고있다. 내 작품 제목 대부분들은 내가 쓴 시나 가사에서 따온 것이다. 조화롭게 잘 이어진다.
5. What do you do in your free time? Does creative process extend to your free time? Or do you do completely different that does not relate to art?
작업 외에 시간에는 무엇을 하나? 창작 과정이 자유시간까지 확장되나? 아니면 예술과 관련 없는 것을 하나?
I don’t know if I would say any of my time is free. I’m always working on something. There’s something to be said and I’m exploring ways to communicate that.
내 시간 중에 한가한 시간이 있는 지 모르겠다. 나는 항상 무언가를 하고 있다. 나는 하고 싶은 말들이 있는데 그걸 전달하기 위한 방법을 찾고 있다.
6. I have read that you like traveling, what countries would you like to visit? And how does traveling affects your paintings?
여행을 좋아한다고 읽었는데 어느 나라들을 가봤나? 그리고 그 여행들을 통해 작품에 어떠한 영향이 있었나?
I have traveled extensively throughout the world. I’ve never been to South Korea before so I’m really looking forward to exploring the city. I wonder if/ and how it will affect my paintings. My recent trip to Tasmania was very isolating so my work took a turn down a road I’d rather have not gone down. Now I’m trying to find my way back. Who knows if I ever will.
나는 많은 나라들을 여행해 봤다. 나는 아직 한국에 가본적이 없어, 요번 한국 여행이 아주 많이 기대된다. 이번 여행으로 내 작품에 어떤 영향이 미칠지 궁금하다. 최근 Tasmania 여행은 매우 고립되어 있어서, 내가 원하지 않은 작품의 길로 가버렸다. 지금은 다시 내가 원하던 방향을 찾아가려고 노력 중이다. 내가 할 수 있을지는 아무도 모른다.
7. Why does color blue makes you exciting? Is it because it contrasts with your meaning in the painting?
파란색은 왜 당신을 흥분하게 만드는가? 당신의 작품과 대조적인 의미를 가지고 있어서 그런가?
It’s very particular color of blue that is part phthalo blue and part white. It creates a tropical color that sends me in to ecstasy when I’m painting with it. It can be very addictive for me. Fun fun.
프탈로 블루와 흰색은 매우 특정한 파란색이다. 그 색으로 그림을 그릴 때 나를 황홀경에 빠지게 하는 열대색을 만들어낸다. 나는 그 색에 중독될 수 있다. 이것은 매우 흥미있는 일이다.
